TEFL in Taipei | TEFL Taipei | ITTT

Our Taiwan TEFL training course is held in the exciting capital city of Taipei. Home to 2.7 million Taiwanese, Taipei is the political, economic, instructional, and cultural center of Taiwan. It is also one of the major hubs in East Asia, and a great base from which to explore the wider region. In Taipei you'll notice a combination of the old and new where modern buildings exist next to those of the colonial era and old Chinese temples. The most famous landmark in Taipei is the Taipei 101 tower, which was the world's tallest building when it was completed in 2004. The National Palace Museum is where you will want to head if you are interested in Taiwanese culture and history. The museum is home to a large collection of ancient Chinese ceramics, carvings, paintings and calligraphy.

Taipei’s food is extraordinary, and you'll be able to sample a bit of everything here. Whether you're searching for Chinese food or international Western and Asian dishes, you be sure to find something to whet your appetite. Chinese staples include rice and noodles together with fish, chicken, beef and pork further as vegetables. Most meals are served with condiments such as chili sauce, pepper and soy sauce.

Taipei’s exciting nightlife is driven by a variety of western bars and local night markets. Shilin Night Market is the most well-know market and is a regular destination for tourists and locals alike. Most night markets open at around four p.m. and keep open until after midnight. These night markets are great places to shop and eat if you're on a budget or don’t enjoy trudging around air-conditioned shopping malls.

If you are the type who enjoys the outdoors, then the Yangmingshan National Park is the place for you. With lovely cherry blossoms, hot springs and hiking trails, it's an incredible place to explore. It's also home to the Seven Star Mountain, which is the tallest dormant volcano in Taiwan at 1,120 meters high.

However you decide to spend your free time in Taipei, you will be certain to gain more than an internationally recognised TEFL qualification from your time here. You will also make friendships and memories which will last a lifetime.

  • What travel documents will I need for Spain?

    Close

All visitors to Taiwan are required to carry a passport with at least six months’ validity after their arrival date.

Passport holders from the UK, the US, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand wishing to enter Taiwan are generally granted a ‘Landing Permission’ at the airport. * As this information is subject to change at any time, we advise everyone to contact your local consulate for current travel regulations prior to planning your trip.

  • What is the course schedule?

    Close

Classes begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday to Friday. There is a lunch break at 1:00 p.m. and classes begin again at 2:00 p.m. In the afternoon classes, students will prepare for their TEFL teaching practice sessions held in the late afternoon. After these sessions you will receive immediate feedback from course instructors. Teaching does not take place every afternoon, but you will receive six to eight hours of observed teaching practice over the four-week course. In addition to these hours, there is also time that must be spent preparing materials and completing various assignments. You will also have the option of teaching adults as well if you would like to increase your experience in this area.

  • What can I expect during teaching practice?

    Close

You will get advice from your course trainer on lesson planning and then get immediate feedback on your lesson after it’s been delivered. Practicum is assessed and a satisfactory assessment is required to earn your TEFL certificate. The students are Taiwanese and are all excited to learn English.

  • Who usually attends the course?

    Close

Class sizes are usually around five to eight TEFL trainees per course and we welcome trainees over the age of 18. Most of the participants are American, British, and Canadian or South African. We do accept non-native speakers of English who have a high proficiency in the language.

  • Is there a dress code?

    Close

For all input and tutorial sessions at the training location, there are no specific dress requirements. We simply ask that you are mindful of your peers/students and be respectful of the fact that you are a visitor in another country.

During Teaching Practice, however, there are specific dress requirements that adhere to the local working culture and basic ideas of professionalism. All trainees are expected to dress “casually smart” according to the following guidelines:

    1. Women:
Shoulders should be covered. Very thin straps or tank tops are not allowed. No low-cut necklines or very short skirts. Bare midriffs must not be visible, even when lifting arms up.
    2. Men:
Long pants or jeans. Short- or long-sleeved shirt with a collar; a tie is not required. Loafers or dress shoes, sandals are not acceptable. Long hair should be neatly tied back into a ponytail.

  • What should I bring for course studies?

    Close

Please make sure that you bring a pen and some notebooks for taking notes during the TEFL course. Otherwise, all the forms and instructions you need will be provided by us, including notes from the input sessions. It is a good idea to bring your laptop or mobile phone with you so you can connect to the free Wi-Fi to do any additional research on the internet.
