The School

Our TEFL training center in Cape Town is located in one of the city’s major shopping malls and is part of a closed off and paved area that runs through the city offering pedestrians the chance to experience the sights, sounds and aromas of colorful shopping vendors and local eateries as they stroll around the mall.

The center has excellent facilities for course participants to take advantage of during their time with us. Trainees will feel right at home at the school and as the classes are usually quite small, trainers are able to provide plenty of individual attention.

  • What does the tuition for the program include?

    The TEFL course fees include all course materials and certification services. Airfares, accommodation and food are not included.

  • What is an average program day like?

    Classes start at 9 o’clock in the morning and end at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. You will have a 15 minutes break and 30 minutes for lunch. During the first two weeks we will focus on teaching methodologies, grammar, vocabulary, classroom management, error correction and feedback techniques.

    The final two weeks have a more practical focus in order to prepare trainees for the assessed lessons. This period also covers lesson planning, pronunciation, phonology, researching different teaching resources and making appropriate use of technology in the classroom.

  • How many students are on average in the program?

    Class sizes range from four to six trainees. Most trainees are from South Africa, however, we do welcome non-native speakers who are fluent in English.

  • What are the teaching practice students and classes like?

    Our students come from all around the world including; Saudi Arabia, Brazil, France, Italy and many more. As the teaching practice classes are free for students, they are there because they want to be and are eager to study.

    The TEFL trainer guides trainees through the teaching practice section of the course, giving them the skills and knowledge needed to teach students from all walks of life.

  • What is the program accommodation like? Where is it located?

    Accommodation options are minutes away from the school. Options include stays with host families and backpacker lodges. Backpacker lodges are self-catering, whereas the host families provide meals, Wi-Fi and laundry.

  • Can I have things shipped or mailed to the school?

    This is not possible. We advise students to have their packages delivered to their accommodation.

  • What’s the climate like? What kind of clothing do I need to bring?

    Winter in Cape Town is generally wet and cool and summer is dry and warm, although the weather can be unpredictable.

    If you’re intending to come to Cape Town during winter, you should pack your warmest clothes and comfortable shoes, but temperatures do not drop below 10°c.
