TEFL Course Rome

‘The Eternal City’ as it’s known, is breathtaking. You can inundate your senses with leisurely strolls down cobblestone streets or by sitting in one of Italy’s famous piazzas (city squares), from the thrill of touring sites that have witnessed a turbulent past to a simple afternoon spent relaxing with a cooling portion of gelato (Italian ice cream), you’ll love Rome.

Rome is Italy’s capital, as well as the country’s largest and most populous city. It’s cosmopolitan as well as modern. It’s one of the few cities that escaped the bombing raids of WWII, so centuries-old buildings and architecture remain unscathed. It has retained its Renaissance and baroque character as well. The city center of Rome is rightfully listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Rome houses the Coliseum, the largest amphitheater built during the Roman Empire. It is also home to countless rare monuments including the Pantheon, the Catacombs of Rome, the Circus Maximus, as well as the Bocca della Verita and much, much more.

Rome hosts many festivals as well. Exhibitions, concerts and other shows take place throughout the year and themes include everything from fashion and modern art to theater, music and dance from all over Europe.

An additional course is also available to trainees who wish to study Italian langauge. It is exclusive to TEFL International trainees and cannot be taken as a course on its own. Each course starts with four intensive weeks of Italian language learning. Classes are conducted in small groups and students are from around the world.

The course is fully accredited and facilitated by one of the most acclaimed language schools in Italy. It’s been running for quite some time now and is recognized by Italy’s Ministry of Education. In addition to learning Italian, you’ll learn an appreciation for that it’s like to be a student in one of your English classes as well as provide you with a wonderfully multicultural learning experience.

We offer classes for abilities of all levels and language skills will be assessed before you start the course. This will ensure you’re placed in the most appropriate class based upon your language ability. You can also extend your course but this should be arranged prior to the start of the course itself.

Together with your ESL certificate course, your program will be eight weeks long and offers a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in Italian culture while living in one of the most historically significant cities in the entire world. First you’ll start with the langue classes and then move onto the TEFL certificate course.

Again, this great opportunity is only available in conjunction with the TEFL International program. The cost of the course is US$ 3,390 plus accommodation.

If you wish to participate in the Italian language course, please note this in the "additional comments" section of the application form.

  • What are my payment options?

Course deposits must be paid to our administrative center. Credit/debit card payments are the fastest and cheapest way to pay, but we also accept payments via Western Union, Pay Pal and bank transfer. While there are no deadlines for a deposit, courses can fill up quickly and your seat will only be reserved after the deposit has been paid.

Once you make your deposit, you will receive an email with an informational packet that provides detailed information about the course and Rome itself.

The balance of course fees are payable on the first day of class and can be made with a credit/debit card or in cash. Alternatively, you can pay the balance via Pay Pal or bank transfer before the first day of class.

Course fees are all-inclusive so you won’t be asked to pay additional costs for course related materials or services. This also includes course moderation and accreditation fees, airport pick-ups* and lifetime job assistance.

    * If you are in our accommodation program, we offer a courtesy pick-up service from Fiumicino airport to your accommodation on the Friday before the beginning of the course from 11.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

  • What are my accommodation options?

We offer apartment accommodation in the city centre and the surrounding area. The apartments are comfortable and simply furnished with equipped kitchens. Blankets and sheets are provided, but bath towels are not. Our apartment accommodation prices start from around 450 € for a single room and 400 € for a shared room.

The accommodation fee is paid to the landlord or landlady directly upon your arrival, in euro and in cash. The landlady or landlord may well ask for a deposit in advance (which will not be refundable if you cancel the booking) but this will be deducted from the final sum you pay upon arrival.

  • What travel documents will I need for italy?

This information is specific to your country of origin and always subject to change. For the most accurate and current information regarding travel documents to Italy, please contact your nearest Italian consulate. There is also a very good chance that all the information you require (application documents, application fees, duration of processing documents) is available on the embassy’s webpage.

  • What is the course schedule?

Classes generally begin at 9:30 a.m. and run until 1:30 p.m. during which grammar and theory are discussed. Afternoons are spent planning lessons with our trainers. Trainees then teach their lessons during the afternoons and evenings, possibly until 8:30 p.m.

  • What can I expect during teaching practice?

Annually, our school has about 900 students of all ages and all levels, so our trainees will have the opportunity to experience all kinds of teaching situations. The students come from many backgrounds, countries (though typically Italy) and work places.

Lessons are based upon real teaching resources found all over the world and you will have the chance to create your own materials as well. You will receive the aid of your course trainer throughout lesson planning and receive immediate feedback on your lesson after it’s been delivered. Practicum is assessed and a satisfactory assessment is required to earn your TEFL/TESOL certificate.

  • Who usually attends the course?

On average we have about twenty five students enrolled on each program, most of whom are American or British, but we also have students from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa amongst others. Ages range from 20 to 60 years old, although the majority of our students are between 22 and 30 years old.

  • Is there a dress code?

During trainees’ lessons, casual attire is allowed. During teaching practice, you will need to dress in trousers/skirts and closed-toe shoes. Men need collared shirts, while women need to wear conservative tops that will cover their shoulders. No visible tattoos or facial piercings are allowed while teaching local students.

  • What should I bring for course studies?

Just like the first day of any other school, you will need some supplies. We will give you your course material and notebook, but you will need to have your own pens and pencils. You may also want scotch tape, a stapler, highlighters, colored pencils and markers, glue, scissors and white-out. You will also need to buy your own paper for the photocopier. All of these materials can be purchased from a store near the school if you do not wish to bring them from home.

Please note that we have wireless internet available at the school for hooking up a laptop but normally there are no phone lines in the accommodation. There are numerous internet facilities all over Rome and should you require a computer for coursework at the school, we have a computer with internet access available in your classroom.
