We use it to describe actions that are happening at the present moment. So, we could give our students a picture, such as the one seen here.   And now we'll have a look at both the infinitive and the gerund. Infinitive is the word "to", followed by the base form of the verb.   As mentioned earlier, our example sentence has used a regular verb 'to play'. With the regular verbs we simply add '-ed'. This spelling pattern changes for words that end with a consonant and a Y: 'cry' goes to 'cried', 'try' to 'tried'.
