This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I enrolled in this course because I was already reaching ESL as a volunteer, but felt that I was not doing a great job. I was hoping this course would help me to become a more effective teacher, and give me confidence to teach the “difficult” topics, particularly in regards to grammar.
I have already seen the benefits of the course, as I have been teaching my class each week, and have been putting each lesson into practice as I have gone along.
Sadly, since my class is low/pre-intermediate, I could seldom use my class lesson plan for the course, so it’s meant preparing two lessons many weeks – but I’m sure that’s been good for me!
I think probably the most important “take away” for me is to be reminded that my students are not uneducated – they simply don’t know english
. I can push them a lot harder than I thought I should. At the same time, I need to be careful not to try to cram too many different concepts into the same class time. In other words, push harder, but in fewer directions!
Feedback I am getting from my director is that my students love my class. And they really feel like they are learning english
. She (the director) sat in on my class last week, and learned something she did not know. That’s pretty cool!
