This unit was interesting in that I learnt there are more than one ways to use text books and course materials and that teachers can have a lot of freedom and flexibility in using these. What is necessary is also so dependent on the group of students themselves. I am a strong believer in the importance of extremely good course books, and if the best is not available, then none at all.This section discusses the importance of writing-- and how it is stressed in ESL classes, and how it is not. It also distinguishes between fluency and accuracy, and how that plays into the ESA format as well. Fluency allows students to be creative with language and have interlocution that is more intuitive to everyday speech, while accuracy drives home grammar and structural concepts.
