The Past Tenses - Past Simple - Mill Drill Activity

This video is part of our series on the past tenses in English. We start off the series with the past simple tense. In this video, we show you how to execute a mill drill activity for this tense. Here, the teacher provides the students with a survey or questionnaire with statements in the past simple tense. The students then go around the classroom and ask other students about their past experiences.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching. This convenient, highly structured design means that you can quickly get to grips with each section before moving onto the next.

This unit has showed me that there are many different types of learners that teachers need to cater to. Every student is unique and faces unique challenges. I feel that as a teacher I need to be aware of all the different types of learners and their style of learning. Teachers need to be creative and motivating and always plan ways to keep their students engaged.I really enjoyed English sections such as this in school and so it was a delight to refresh my memory and do this unit. I re-learned the conditions which I had forgotten and found it so interesting. In order to retain a good understanding of this unit I had to revise it a few times. But I am glad that I did because now it is one of my strongest sections (I hope).
