Pronunciation and Phonology in the EFL Classroom - International Phonetic Alphabet

This video is part of our series on pronunciation and phonology in the EFL classroom and focuses on the international phonemic alphabet. This alphabet is used to write out English words in a way to better understand their pronunciation. It is of great use to know the phonemic alphabet as a teacher of English as a foreign language and to pass it on to our students.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching. This convenient, highly structured design means that you can quickly get to grips with each section before moving onto the next.

I have learned from the unit 6 content a lot of helpful hints for my professional development. Specific attention was paid to a cultural issues\\differences.I am grateful for suggestions to do some research about the country I am potentially moving to .It certainly will take some time ,but will help to avoid unpleasant situations with students and their parents .What a unit! I am happy that after taking some extra time - compared with previous units - I can read phonetic scripts! Now I am sure that I will teach my students every day one or two phonetics, they are incredibly useful. As for the rest of the contents I became interested in the stress that depending on where it's located can change the meaning of the sentence.
