There is a wide variety of ESL course books that are designed for students of all levels and ages on the market. So teachers might be confused with the question - how to choose the perfect one for their students. There is a difference of opinions about whether to use course books or not. I find them very useful as they provide a graded syllabus and a balanced mix of vocabulary, grammar and skills work. On the other hand, most of the course books are designed to fit the need of the wide audience and to be sold out. That is why teachers should not overuse them but to supplement, adapt and replace some items from the course book with other authentic or created materials to motivate their students and match their lessons to the needs and interests of their students.
