I learned the advantages and disadvantages of using a course book. It proves to be a tested and tried course yet if a teacher depends solely on the book it can create a lack of creativity and too much dependence on it can make your class predictable. It is also important to adapt your course to your student's needs and really think about what activities can compliment and reinforce their learning.
