This unit gave me clear and concise guidelines for successful classroom management. Having taught other subjects to students of different ages, I found many of the techniques described familiar. For instance, I always found it best to have my classes sit in a horseshoe layout when possible. This arrangement helped to encourage participation among all students, not letting any get lost in the back. Another important topic is discipline. I know from experience that raising your voice or yelling at students only causes more tension and inhibits learning. I believe one of the most important characteristics of a good teacher is being very observant and making sure to give equal attention to all students in the class. This can prove challenging when certain students are more motivated than others, but it is necessary to spark interest in all students however possible.
