Although this was a short lesson, there was a lot of important content. The receptive skills of reading and listening are important in the acquisition of any new language. Students also need to build skills in skimming and scanning, predicting, and identifying specific, detailed information when needed. These skills are also important test-taking strategies. When students learn to use these skills during tests, results will more accurately reflect what they know and enable the teacher to have better feedback to assess what students have learned.
