This unit was rather less developed than other units, but some of the reasons for or against using course books would be helpful to a beginning teacher with no prior experience in any teaching. After the first year of teaching, a teacher basically should understand the reasons that you cite. Course books are great for supplemental material in many ways and should be used for the good content and guidance they offer, but requiring purchases of books, especially at the early stages of language learning is more of a burden than a help.
