This unit dealt with receptive skills - reading and listening. There are different reasons why people read. Mainly it's for pleasure or to gather information. When learning a new language, it's equally important to be able to listen well because it motivates you to think about the language being used. Also, when teaching, it's important to not overuse complicated words or topics as beginner students may shy away from wanting to learn the language.
