This video lesson was a great demonstration of how NOT to teach English! I found the first video extremely cringeworthy, but also appreciated it for showing so blatantly the issues that will arise if you don’t respect and listen to your students. Instead of making the students feel comfortable and encouraging them to participate, he used intimidation techniques and humiliated students for giving wrong answers. I found it interesting to watch the second video and see the ways the teacher corrected his mistakes in the first lesson. It was also a very valuable lesson on getting the students comfortable enough to speak. In the beginning the students seemed a bit nervous or reluctant to practice speaking, but the teacher helped them to become comfortable with the material and made the class fun for everyone, thus encouraging much more student talk time.
