I learned the importance of working on writing skills, although it is often neglected due to the time spent on class as students quietly work on their writing assignments. But, it definitely should not be ignored. In writing, mistakes cannot be quickly corrected. So, it is important to have writing as an integral part of your lessons. Even if you mostly provide writing assignments for homework, be sure to go over and offer incentives for completing writing assignments.
