This unit dealt with classroom management issues from classroom set up to handling disciplinary problems that have an effect on the whole class. I am mostly happy to have learned from this unit that I am on the right track in my own classes. I might do better in some areas such as discipline. The classes I provide are grant-funded and free. One problem I have, therefore, is that students don't always show up to class and have missed some material when they come back. This makes it difficult to forge ahead as the student who may have been absent will interrupt the lesson to find out what he or she has missed, no matter how many times I have reminded students of the rules and policies of the class. Also, often I notice students will start talking or begin the task or activity before I have explained what to do. This leads to unnecessary mistakes and questions that may have been answered but they missed. So, needless to say, I am happy to have read this unit and feel better that the issues I have are common ones when teaching (even adults). I think I will pay special heed to one reason I might have this issue with a couple students. Perhaps, they haven't understood as well as I had previously thought. I will have to use some of the advice in previous sections for checking student understanding.I can confidently say that the list of things to do in order to prevent any problem behavior, I am doing. I just need to work on the interruptions during TTT, I think. This particular class is at a very low level so it would not surprise me after reading this unit to find out that these particular students have been pretending to understand and maybe actually do not.
