There are many exams and tests that language learners can or will take as they learn a new language. These tests and assessments are all for different purposes. These tests include placement tests, diagnostic tests, practice tests, progress tests, and external exams. Typically, progress tests are the ones that teachers use most often as they evaluate where students are at with their learning. Placement and diagnostic tests usually are used before or right at the beginning of the course. External exams are not given by language schools and are periodically conducted by outside organizations to evaluate language learners for different reasons.
