This unit covered the past tense form of verbs. The past simple tense is used when the time for the past action is given, when the time is asked about, and when the action clearly took place at a specific time. The past continuous tense is used for uninterrupted past actions, indication of gradual development that took place in the past, to express an action that began before that time and probably continued after it, and in descriptions. The past perfect tense represents actions that took place in the past before other actions. The past perfect continuous form is used to talk about longer actions or situations in the past that had been going on continuously up to the past moment that we are thinking about.
