At this point, I can easily imagine how a new teacher would like to have a course book to rely on when the head is drawing a blank. Luckily with this age of technology and sharing information, it would be easy to find inspiration in internet and from fellow teachers who have a possible facebook group for example. One thing that I think native speakers have the advantage of is the plays and the games they used to play as kids as those type of activities are often good in the beginning with younger students as well. Every country has a little bit different ones so they would get the hang of it quickly and finding similarities easily. With older students, it would be harder to think of easy material that would still be just as interesting and with good variety. Going to the restaurant gets old pretty quickly and getting better with more interesting and imaginative ways comes across to me as a challenge. Not a bad one but I would personally have to think a bit more of how to do things.
