There are many methods for teaching the English language. Each method has pros and cons so we cannot definitively say which is the correct method, rather we should take the pros of each and use them to create lessons/activities that effectively teach language while being mindful of the pitfalls of those methods. Understanding why these methods don't work is also very important. With students from all cultures and backgrounds, we need to be mindful of why or why not these methods will work. In addition to knowing how to use methods in teaching, I think understanding how and when to correct students is equally as important. We don't want to over correct or correct at the wrong time because it is discouraging and interrupts the flow of the lesson for the class as a whole. From what I've read, I would like to allow for a period of reflection that allows students to find their own mistakes or things about the lesson that they are unsure of and give them the opportunity to point them out first before I take to correcting them. This way, I can be sure that they have grasped the basic understanding of what I am trying to teach them. If they can find the errors, then they should (in theory) understand the correct answers.
