Coursebooks can provide a good framework for a syllabus, but one should not overuse it, as the predictability of it will bore students. This will be especially true if as a teacher, you are stuck working with a course book that you are not particularly fond of. To make it work, don't use it all the time, skip what's not relevant or appropriate, and augment it with your own material. Do your own research, and don't assume the book is the be-all and end-all.
