Classroom Management Eye contact, gestures, and voice are all tools teachers may use to communicate and manage the class. Using student's names is another technique for organizing students and getting their attention. Students can be organized into groups according to class size and activity. It is good to mix things up as much as possible. The teacher may organize the classroom and position herself and the students depending on the activity and needs of the class. Teachers should write on the board in a way that reduces the amount of time spent with their backs to the class. Teaching talking time and student talking time must be balanced so students have both instruction and the opportunity to use English. There are several ways to give instruction effectively: use simple language, be consistent, use visual cues, and checking questions. Rapport between the teacher and students and between the students themselves is important in creating a successful and comfortable class. Discipline problems may occur for a variety of reasons. Teachers can minimize these problems by being respectful and consistent and developing a rapport with the class. Here are some tips for responding to problem behavior: act immediately, focus on the behavior, change classroom dynamic, keep calm, and use the knowledge of your colleagues.
