I learned the different uses of the four tenses that we use in the past: past simple, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous. The past simple is used to describe an action that started at a given and definite time in the past. The past continuous tense is used to express an action that happened in the past and most probably continued after that time. The past perfect tense is used to describe an action that happened before another action that occurred in the past. And finally, the past perfect continuous tense is used to describe an action that occurred in the past and that had been going on until another past action. The unit also goes on to explain the common errors and mistakes that students can make using these different tenses.
