In this unit I learned the importance of physical presence and voice in the classroom. Good eye contact is essential for good rapport with the students because it helps with involvement and understanding along with helping make the students feel a part. It encourages participation and helps maintain control of the atmosphere. Good use of gesture is important for conveying meaning, managing the class, and visual interest which also helps reduce teacher talking time. There are three main ways to set up a class and each has their pros and cons. As long as there is a way to have full class attention along with needed pair and group work, there should be adjustments accordingly. This unit also talked about the importance of establishing rapport and the importance of consistency in discipline. Both are executed depending on the demographic of the students and should be constant beginning early on.
