I found the Unit 10 videos a refreshing look at the differences of effective and ineffective teaching based on the ESA lesson plan model and characteristics. The part I enjoyed most was observing and assessing everyone’s body language to make sure their non-verbal responses reinforced their checks for understanding and verbal assessments. I believe observation and self-reflection are significant for a good lesson plan. The teacher can learn a lot in evaluating a student's body language. It is important to look at into the student’s eyes. If their eyes are dull and unfocused most likely they are bored. If a student is paying attention, their eyes will be focused on the teacher. It is also important to evaluate the student’s facial expression. Possibly the student is unfocused due to being confused. Next take a look at the student’s posture. If the student is slouched over their desk He or she may be trying not to fall asleep. A student paying attention will usually be sitting up straight at their desk. This should be followed with a look at his or her legs. If his or her foot is tapping against the floor, he or she may be impatient with the lecture, conversation, or presentation. Finally, observation should take clues from the classroom environment and the students as a whole group. The teacher should use he already knows about the student to help in observations. If students are bored, switch things up once in a while. A good teacher must also be an entertainer. Never be afraid to make students laugh! It is good to tell stories related to the course being taught.
