This unit was tedious and tricky, but once I got the hang of it I was able to decipher a lot of information that I’ve known intuitively but have found difficult to explain to students. One thing I learned was that there are specific “non-progressive” verbs, which do not have a continuous form because they refer to states, not actions. I had never understood so clearly the reasons behind why we structure sentences to form tenses the way we do.
