The unit outlines the importance of striking a balance between the time teachers spend explaining a language point and the students opportunity for active language use. This is summed up in the prescribed teaching method ESA - engage, study, activate. Engage students from the outset of the class by eliciting all students to use the target language. Take some time to study/explain the lessons material so that the students gain an understanding of how to correctly use the language. Provide an opportunity for students to actively and creatively use not only what they have just studied, but previously acquired language too. Incorporating these 3 stages in each class keeps things fun, interesting and ensure an all important student centred learning environment.
