In this chapter, theories, methodologies, and efficient teaching practices are discussed. The level of the class, the culture of the country where the teacher is teaching, and the teacher's personality and teaching ability should be considered when choosing a certain methodology. It is imperative to have the lesson 'student-centered' yet guided and facilitated by the teacher. Students learn more quickly when they are involved and immersed into the language. Engage, student, and activate (ESA) seemed the most productive in methodologies presented because it sparks interest in the students, gives the opportunity to attempt using the language, and follows with an activity that reaffirms what was previously covered and solidifies their knowledge. Again depending on the class and other factors, the teacher can decide whether a straight arrow, patchwork, or boomerang ESA would be most effective in the teaching style. Learning is also maximized when students aren't feeling pressured or fearful. Providing students with a stress-free atmosphere to learn includes providing feedback at an appropriate time and in an appropriate form. There are many factors to consider when deciding how to provide feedback, which include the individual student type, the culture and expected role of the teacher, the lesson plan, and the type of activity. While corrections are important, positive reinforcement is very important too. This keeps students from feeling discouraged and fearful of errors. An efficient way a teacher can correct a student is to facilitate self correction because this encourages students to identify the error and create a solution to their error. Teacher to student corrections should be the last resort if a student can't resolve the error. The teacher should consider the type of activity for appropriate timing of soliciting corrections. In activities where accuracy is the focus, teachers should provide more feedback as opposed to activities where fluency is the focus. However, if the mistake has a possibility of becoming an engrained error within the students, the teacher should provide the correction to the students. In conclusion, a good teacher should be able to tailor their lesson plan and teaching methodology based on many factors.
