It is very easy to get confused if you are not familiar with each type of present tense verbs. You must know the scenarios and have your students practice such scenarios. The students must memorize certain verbs in order to be precise. There are no easy rules with such verbs, but instead a student must have time to practice using them in classroom situations. I read through the common mistakes and I do believe it will be difficult to explain why to a student, but practicing in class is the best way to learn the correct way to use present tense verbs.
