There are many different conditionals to learn in English. Conditionals are used to express present and future possibilities using the word "if" and a main clause. The conditionals are zero, first, second, third, and mix. Depending on what needs to be expressed one of the conditionals needs to be chosen. Some teaching ideas include split sentences, role play, having students construct half the conditional, and having students answer questions that will elicit that language. Students also need to learn reported speech. This is used when students have to change tenses when they tell another person about a conversation they are having or had.
