Modal auxiliary verbs are can, could, may, shall, should, will, would, must, have to, have got to, need to, needn't and ought to. They can express obligation, possibility or probability, permission or prohibition, ability, and advice. There are two voices used in the English language: the passive voice and the active voice. The active voice is used when the subject is of importance more so than the passive voice. The passive voice is used when the subject isn't known/important. An independent clause is a complete sentence. A dependent clause isn't a complete sentence. It must be connected to an independent clause. A relative clause is a dependent clause that modifies the noun. Essential relative clauses change the meaning of the sentence. Non-essential clauses don't change the meaning to the noun. Phrasal verbs are multi-word verbs that consist of a verb with one or two particles.
