The use of the Past Tenses can be a little confusing for students, especially when you take into account that they also have the Present Tenses to worry about. Therefore, it is very important to give students' the opportunity to practice extensively each of these structures. I usually place less importance on the Past Perfect Continuous and focus more on the others, since I consider that it confuses students too much. Once I feel they are comfortable using the other tenses, I start working more with this tense.
