This unit introduced the different parts that language consists of; vocabulary, grammar structure and language function, how to break each part down and teach them. Vocabulary and grammar are language concepts that I was already aware of, however language function was something new to consider. I found the sample ESA lesson plan provided was particularly helpful in outlining how to go about teaching the different types of language function. For example as a native speaker I intrinsically understand the language function of "inviting" using a formal, informal or tentative form but never considered the complexity of it.
