There is such a balance that needs to be kept when it comes to assessment/testing and just allowing students to learn whatever they are able to learn. The insight on page 6,"Many teachers are not in favor of formal testing as it is often more a test of memory then actual knowledge." That's a challenging statement. How much of memory isn't really learned but only memorized? And how do we capture the things that have really been learned and hold onto to them and let the things only memorized become things one has learned?! And then how so we as teachers capture that?
