In the first lesson, the teacher did not have an Engage phase and so the students were confused about what he wanted to them to learn. He also was constantly correcting their pronunciation or answers as “wrong”, which may have made it more difficult for students to want to participate.
In the second the teacher was more prepared with the language frames so the students were less confused about the language they were learning. There was also an Engage phase that effectively had the students participating from the very beginning. The teacher was more upbeat and successfully created an atmosphere where students were not only answering him but interacting with each other.
