The productive skills of speaking and writing is where students begin to output the language they learn. Particularly with speaking, a student is more exposed to learning pressure in a class room, which can be due to lack of confidence, fear of making mistakes etc. It is important to carefully nurture students over these obstacles to strengthen their ability to speak to others in the target language. From my experience learning a second language, I found avoiding speaking to people in the target language significantly limits opportunities for development.
