Learning a language entails the efforts of both the teacher and the student. An effective teacher must be flexible to the needs of the students as well as understand and cater to their learning level. Also, a teacher must be able to create an environment suited and appropriate for each learner. A teacher's grasp of the classroom setup and environment, learning abilities, age group, cultural background, and other important factors would greatly immersion of the learners to the new language. A student must be motivated to discover new things to be able to learn and make progress. A student is a good learner when one is not afraid to make mistakes instead learn from it for self-improvement. Also, I do agree that as a student, one must learn and not fear asking questions as this is part of the language learning process. Asking questions doesn’t mean you are weak or you don’t understand. It means that you are curious to know more and understand concepts better. Having taught the old-fashioned way and having been taught to teach the old-fashioned way, Unit 1 reoriented me of the factors I need to consider as an English teacher. I discovered new things and terminologies that I find helpful in the ever changing evolution of language learning.
