I learned that this a difference between teaching beginners, children, business people, teaching students individually and teaching mono & multilingual students. Teaching each group of people comes with its own techniques, lesson plans and common problems you, as a teacher, are most likely to experience. For example, there are about 5 different types of beginners. I won't list all of them but an example are beginners without Roman alphabet. These students need a lot of work on basic literacy skills and a lot of reading & writing is necessary. Different activities are suitable for each class you teach. For example, for beginners a useful technique might be to use group/pair work, while using short stories would be better suited for individual 1 on 1 activities. As a teacher you need to install discipline and manage your class, especially when teaching children. However there are a number of reasons for problems with students in your class ranging from boredom & peer pressure to problems out of the teacher's control such as children students having issues at home.
