Writing, for English specifically, is vital to a full understanding of the language. Being able to speak it does not at all indicate a full comprehension of English. When to use the correct "your", how to spell, and what a sentence looks like without an article in front of a noun, like with many other languages, is important to understand. It's good for students to know what that looks like. In my future class I will have students create semi-frequent compositions.
