The two videos helped me understand how important a teacher's attitude is in the classroom. In the first lesson, the teacher seemed as if he was in a hurry and rushed the students through every part of the lesson. His impatience made him seem irritable, and he was critical of the students' responses instead of encouraging. In the second lesson the students seemed much more confident and participated more willingly. The structure of the second lesson encouraged them to speak to one another more than the first. After watching these videos I believe that the Engage phase is critical in helping students understand the context of the language goal. Also, without patience and an encouraging smile, even a well-structured lesson is not likely to be successful.
