This unit covers the past tenses: past simple, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous. It covers the usage cases for these tenses. Past simple is used for completed past actions. Past continuous is used to describe ongoing activities in the past. Past perfect is used when describing past completed actions relative to some past point. Finally past perfect continuous is used for describing ongoing past activities up to some past point. The correct form for each is given as well as usage examples and ideas for in-class activities.
