Tests and evaluations are essential to know where students are in their level of understanding and proficiency. There are various tests that can be administered to students, some will help with knowing a students level of understanding and others will be examples of comprehension and mastery of the English language. From personal experience testing is a great way to gain confidence in any subject; however, I know that there are very good test takers and very poor test takers in the classroom. For the poor test takers it may seem daunting to be evaluated and even more so when that evaluation could mean a job or license. As teachers of English I believe that tests are a necessary evil in the classroom to gauge the quality of understanding students have and the quality of lessons being administered.
