It was really helpful to see a teacher in action and to compare the effective and ineffective teaching behaviors that I've been reading about. I felt the students' pain in the first lesson, as even I was confused by what the teacher was saying and expecting of them. On the other hand, it's easy to sit at my computer and think, "I would never teach like that," but the reality is, it is probably easier than I think to fall into some of those traps and pitfalls if I'm not prepared. Watching the videos has helped to prepare me because it prompted me to imagine how I would do better than the first video, and also how I can emulate aspects of the teaching in the second video--but while adapting it to my own personality. It also helps me to feel less intimidated by the classroom setting because I am able to see one ahead of time. One thing that really struck me is that beginning the lesson on the right foot is so crucial to how the rest of the lesson will go, and the teacher did a good job of that in the second video.
