Overview After reading Unit 1, I feel that I can see both sides of the coin. The teacher and student are both inter- dependent on each other for a good end result. The teacher by far carries a greater responsibility as they need many qualities which will be used in the process of teaching English, spoken or written. The teacher is a role model for the whole class thus he / she must have some certain charter- tics that are in built which would kind ,patient ,interactive, entertaining, and by the way a love for teaching. Other specific qualities that have been mentioned, they must be able to Manage, Control, Organize, Access, Prompt, Participate, Facilitate, Obverse and be a role model to the entire class as one. The teacher will sometimes also have to motivate slower students. In some cases where there is a cultural difference, he/she should be more understanding and patient, or at other times it might need some autocratic authority to bring certain discipline into the classroom. A good teacher should always keep time as a major thought in the in the back of their minds, the pace at which English is being taught, the speed with which the students are understanding and finally accessing what the students have taken in and where there is still weakness, so that it can be corrected. Students of course come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures they all have some kind of learning experiences. Basically there are four groups and these we should classify 1.)Adult (over 18)-who wants to learn for a specific reason 2.)Teenagers (13 -18 Years) - who are there a second language or better grades in School 3.)Young learners (8-12 Years)-who are normally good learners and will try hard 4.)Toddlers (7 and younger)-these have a very short thinking span but will enjoy English long as the activity is interesting Students have many personalities, some are quick learner some slow some shy some motivated, these are just some the charter tics that pupils have. But we must classify these into some sort of grouping which then can take forward e.g. Beginners, Elementary, Low/pre-intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, and Advanced On knowing this we can than know which course to put them in and see how well they will cope.
