Unit 14 gives helpful insight into an effective and reasonable use of coursebooks and lesson materials. There are two kinds of material: authentic materials and created materials. Depending on the level of the students and the material itself, both should be used in a good mix. Good examples of created material can be found following to the introducing part. The unit then goes on to stating both course books’ advantages and disadvantages, how to use them best and how to analyse a course book. I have learned that course books can be a very helpful tool for teaching, but that they shouldn’t be used for the whole lesson, but rather be supplemented with own creative ideas according to the students’ needs and interests.
