There are a number of aides a teacher can use in the class to fully engage students, along with introducing them to expanded vocabulary and authentic English use. These are available at all levels of technology, from paper cards or drawings on a board made by the teacher to fully technological interactive whiteboards and online resources. Again, the onus is on the teacher to ensure any materials used are well-placed in the lessons and at the correct level for the students. A teacher should also ensure they know how to work with whatever level of technology they are using - if the IWB has an error, is there a back-up? If internet is lost, does the teacher have other materials on hand to cover the class? A little redundancy in planning will save everyone frustration if something does occur with materials being used. It is good to keep in mind, learning from a variety of materials and medias is more effective interesting to students than overuse of any single thing. Just as not all students enjoy listening to a lecture and taking notes for each class, not all students want to watch film after film in a general EFL course. Mixing medias and presentation methods ensure every student has a chance to use their own "best" learning method. It is also immensely important to remember language is communicative, and that having the students communicate is the most important goal in the EFL class. The method of presentation should not push out student communication and practice, no matter how "interactive" it is.
