This unit on managing classes shows us the different methods we can use to establish a good rapport with our students, arrange classes to best maintain control and get the best results from lessons. We have learnt how to position ourselves, and the students, in the classroom so all students have an opportunity to hear instructions, see visual aids and feel involved.
We also learnt the importance of eye contact, gestures and voice in encouraging student contribution, maintaining discipline, correcting and holding student attention and checking they are all understanding instructions and getting involved in activities.
Good use of board work was also covered to reduce the time we are not facing our students.
We learnt of various means of making instructions effective and maintaining student attention with simple language, consistent word use and visual clues.
