In the first video, an example is given of a teacher who is giving a lesson in a disinterested manner. The teacher begins with minimal excitement and no engagement from the students. He is continually explaining that this lesson is easy which can be discouraging to the students. This teacher spends a lot of time with his back to the students when he is writing on the board. Instead the teacher should briefly write phrases while still engaging the students or he should write the information down before the lesson. The teacher does not do a sufficient job in explaining what he wants from the students and is therefore left waiting for answers a lot during the lesson. When the teacher receives questions he does not properly know how to respond he ignores them or pushes them off, which increases confusion. While the students are working on worksheets he does not check in with them and instead sits reading other material. Throughout the lesson he seems disinterested and unorganized. Lastly, his corrections of the students are discouraging and negative which limits the amount of participation. On the other hand, the second lesson begins with much more enthusiasm from the teacher and therefore the students. The teacher is engaging and encourages participation, with excitement in his voice and gestures that help guide the students. Additionally, he ensures that all students have an understanding of the animals they are talking about with photos and explanations, which allows the students to better complete the tasks in the study phase. This teacher emphasizes the importance of pronunciation which is important when learning new vocabulary. When students respond to questions, he is encouraging and positive. Additionally, he uses body language to give students hints for answering his questions, eliciting responses rather than telling them.
