This unit discussed the importance of reading and listening, and the motive to do so can affect how well we process what we read and hear. Our motives, or reasons, can be for a purpose or for entertainment. If we were to be reading a manual on how to operate a machine, then it would be for a purpose. To meet an end or goal. Or maybe we choose to read a book by our favorite author, then our reason for reading or listening would be for our entertainment. Whatever the case, it will affect how well we retain what we read. This unit also discussed how reading and listening has more to do with just our eyes and ears, but it involves having an understanding or preexisting knowledge of words.
